It is best to use only dried logs for heating, a basic supply is available in the flat. Small bundles are also available, e.g. at the Feneberg supermarket in Fischen or at the V-Markt in the direction of Oberstdorf, where you can also get kindling wood.

For lighting, we recommend the procedure from above or from the front! This produces less soot and ash, the air supply is better and the first charge lasts longer. When lighting from above, place two large parallel to each other and add some kindling on top so that the fire then continues downwards. This way, the fireplace reaches its operating temperature more quickly and the gases are burnt more efficiently.

  1. Make sure that all the stove's air regulators are open so that there is sufficient draught when lighting the fire.
  2. Then place some kindling on top of the logs, preferably 2-3 layers. Please note that wood needs air; we recommend about 1 cm of air between each piece.
  3. Put some barbecue lighter on top of the kindling. Please note that if you use newspaper, you will produce an unnecessary amount of ash!
  4. The last step is simple: light the fire and close the door. After a short time the flames should be blazing!

Collected wood from the forest, combustible liquids or fossil fuels, damp or treated (impregnated, glazed, varnished, coated) wood, wood fibre or pressed boards, waste paper, cardboard, newspapers, packaging must NOT be burnt. Uncontrolled burning is life-threatening, damages the fireplace and poses a fire hazard!

  • The wood is used most efficiently when the draught regulator is wide open. This way the flames get enough air and a blazing fire is created. This also reduces pollution, as particles and gases burn completely and turn into clean heat.
  • Once the home is warm, the room temperature is controlled by the amount of wood, not by the air regulator.
  • If there is insufficient draught, the door should be opened slightly until the fireplace is sufficiently warm.
  • Be During prolonged operation, the air slits in the base of the fireplace can be covered by ash; even then, the door should be opened slightly to avoid heavy smoke development.

On the wall you will find a set of fireplace tools and an ash bucket, which can be used to clean the fireplace of ash residues. If the windows are sooty due to heavy smoke, they can best be cleaned with lightly moistened newsprint paper dipped in ash.
There is also an ash vacuum cleaner in the utility cupboard in the Children’s room.

As the final cleaning of the fireplace is sometimes very time-consuming, we charge a flat rate of €30 for the use of the fireplace in addition to the rent.
